NATIONAL WINNER

LON_Argent-StableStreet

Argent - 4 Stable Street, London

This project is the perfect representation of Argent’s ambition to achieve excellence in all that it does. Stable Street provides a tangible demonstration to partners, customers and stakeholders as to the developer’s values, attributes and capabilities. The highest levels of quality design and construction techniques have been applied to the fit out of the Grade II listed former train shed, which sits within one of London’s most important regeneration projects. The input, although robust, has benefited from the application of a light touch. Whilst over the period of the development the organisation has grown from around 20 members of staff to more than 100 people, through the individuality that the scheme has created the ethos and qualities of the company have been retained. This building is a brilliant showcase both for Argent itself and for its Kings Cross project. The individual spaces, whether it be the marketing suite, the open plan areas, the cosy living room or the staff kitchen - which incorporates the essential large kitchen table - are tied together beautifully. The terrace, surrounded by a herb garden, affords great views back onto Granary Square and is perfect for overseeing the King's Cross development. The office space is exemplar, providing an inspirational and creative working environment. The transparent client meeting rooms are clustered around an inviting exhibition and event space. The light and open desk areas on first and mezzanine levels contrast the warm textured warehouse feel of the extension. The design delivers the correct balance of old and new, with the contemporary finishes reflecting the industrial heritage of the building and complementing the historic elements of the retained Victorian facade. Environmentally the project had huge ambitions, with its sustainability credentials embedded firmly into the blueprint of the design. By setting out these aims clearly from the outset great success has been achieved, and it is the first project to achieve a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating for a fit out. The new building is a milestone in the evolution of the Kings Cross regeneration and embodies everything that Argent aspires to deliver at this and all its other developments.

MID_AlconburyBuilding

Alconbury Incubator Building, Alconbury Enterprise Campus, Alconbury Weald, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire

The project had high ambition: flexibility of let size, generous shared facilities, high thermal mass, mixed mode ventilation, rainwater harvesting, and a site viewing platform all contribute to this project punching well above its weight. The building’s unique arrangement has resolutely met the developer’s objective for this office to start a wider process of place-making, setting the project out amongst this year’s entries.
