Engineering professional services giant WSP moved 700 people into its new headquarters last year, bringing together five separate regional offices. The design centred on the creation of “neighbourhoods”, with a mix of meeting spaces, booths and business lounges to decrease fixed desk space and create a single community. Judges recognised the project’s focus on sustainability. The workplace uses a range of energy saving measures, including green lease and Fitwel accreditation. It features biophilic design, incorporating greenery and natural light.

The judges were struck by the remarkable transformation of two adjacent industrial buildings into a single, creative and collaborative hub for the online retailer. The judges praised the creation of a single town hall, formed by combining the two buildings, which provides Boden with an area where all staff can gather within minutes.

The Garment Factory, located in Glasgow's Merchant City, was awarded Best Refurbished/ Recycled Workplace for effectively transforming the Grade B listed workplace into a modern, dynamic workplace, which has succeeded in attracting a wide range of tenants from the technology and creative industries. The judges praised the bravery of the project and the unwavering commitment to quality throughout the office. Manchester’s iconic Hanover building, first built around 1905, took home the Best Refurbished/Recycled Workplace award, thanks to its careful restoration and reimagination. The judges noted the project has succeeded in blending the heritage of the site with stunning contemporary design to create 90,000 sq ft of premium office space, fit to be the new home of tech giant Amazon.
