Home of five Associated British Foods businesses, the office brings together some of Britain’s most iconic brands in a spectacular, modern workplace that accommodates more than 300 employees. The office brings to life the business’ vision of being a vibrant and highly sustainable place to work. EPC and A-rated, it contains features including PV solar panels, rainwater harvesting, low energy LED lighting and external louvres that control the sunlight and cause the building’s appearance to change throughout the day. The BCO judging panel highlighted the impressive variety of facilities - including an excellent on-site café - that allow for the movement and interaction of employees within a building that delight and surprise at every corner.

The judges referred to this workplace as somewhere that “put a smile on everyone’s face”. The judges were struck by the remarkable adaptation of a London Dock Grade II listed building into a single, creative and collaborative design studio, as well as the commitment to sustainability through local sourcing of key materials.

The BCO judges praised Tombola House for its balance of corporate culture and social responsibility, with the business’ commitment to wellness and the local community embedded throughout its design. The building is the European HQ for Europe’s largest gaming company by the same name, and marks the first phase of a wider campus development. The public has also been encouraged to make use of the campus space, and judges were impressed by its ‘socially enriching’ environment – which includes a social hub, a café/restaurant, a gym, and more.

This project was awarded the Corporate Workplace award thanks to the impressive way design has been used to bring to life its’ occupier’s ‘one team’ culture. The BCO judges valued the project team’s decision to collaborate closely with the clients throughout the entire design and delivery process – collaboration that included the involvement of the UK Hydrographic Office’s 700 members of staff. The judging panel particularly praised the inclusion of natural ventilation, as well as the generous central open atrium and spacious bridges and balconies.

Morgan Stanley has taken the opportunity to bring its workforce together in Glasgow, who were previously across two different sites. The judges commended the development’s focus on health and wellbeing by providing a light, vibrant workplace with an impressive gym with a studio for classes that is paired with a wellness suite and an attending doctor and on-site medical nurse. The judges were also impressed by the agility of the workplace which includes a variety of spaces, from individual meeting rooms to informal collaboration spaces that really maximise the opportunity to work flexibly.
