The BCO has released an early update to its Guide to Specification, providing expert advice on how to specify office space. Peter Stocks, from the BCO Technical Affairs Committee will present the changes, followed by a panel discussion on the impact the changes will have on the Midlands office market.
Description
The update to the Guide responds to the emerging challenges of wellbeing in the workplace and the accelerating need for the build environment to respond to climate change.
New recommendations include:
• Design requirements for hybrid working, including the adoption of more generous space standards and levels of outdoor air supply
• Design changes to reflect changing technology, including reduced power and cooling load requirements and more efficient lighting standards
• Enhanced sustainability requirements, including BREEAM Excellent and NABERS UK 5-star
• Higher performance requirements for facades
• Aspirational targets for operational and embodied carbon use to meet NZC goals, including more flexibility in the range of structural spans for offices
