The ceiling of an office building

Invitation To Tender - Towards a Zero Carbon Office

The BCO's Environmental Sustainability Committee, led by Mike Beaven of Arup, wishes to commission a new significant research study addressing the question of how we create and occupy low carbon offices in Britain. Please note the deadline for submissions has changed to Monday 28th April at 12.00pm.

This research will seek to highlight the substantial gap between a building's design capabilities to minimize carbon emissions and the ability of occupiers to make the most of them. To help close this gap, this new research project will aim to promote the notion of extending the role of the designing architects and engineers over the life of a building. This will help occupiers understand how to reduce carbon emissions in the workplace, while providing the designers with vital feedback on how the building is used and operated. A central premise of this new work will stress that technical innovation in the design of buildings is not enough on its own, and that the physical occupation of the building and how it operates is now the biggest obstacle to reducing emissions.

As part of the new research policy, this tender is being publicly released, enabling member companies to submit tenders to undertake this important new research.

The closing date for this tender is 12.00pm on Monday 28th April.

If you have any queries about the tender process please contact Dr. Ian Selby, Research and Policy Director at the BCO by email.
