Michael Hussey takes over Presidency of the British Council for Offices

The British Council for Offices (BCO), the leading source of insight into the office sector, yesterday (14 July 2009) formally welcomed Michael Hussey as its new President.

Michael Hussey takes over the post from Nicholas Ridley as past, present and future Presidents came together at the BCO's Annual General Meeting in London.

As Chairman of the BCO Annual Conference in Edinburgh earlier this year, Michael Hussey brought together the cream of the office sector under the theme of 'challenging conventions'. It is an approach he intends to maintain during his year-long role as President of the organisation, to ensure the BCO remains as relevant as possible to the sector and provides value to members in the face of a shifting economy.

Michael Hussey is eager to stay close to the changing needs of the membership, saying: "The BCO is the UK's leading thinktank for discussion and debate of issues affecting the office sector and seeks to deliver relevance for its broad church of members. There is no doubt we are facing challenging economic conditions. The British Council for Offices has got to be in a position to anticipate and react to change - from the delivery of small office space for entrepreneurial business through to fundamental trends in the financial services industry."

"We must strive to keep pace with changes to the office environment by providing cutting-edge research and insight for members. The BCO's recently launched Guide to Specification is one great example; this, other guides and events from the organisation will play an instrumental role in helping members adapt to difficult circumstances."

Hussey's appointment to President will see Gerald Kaye, Development Director of Helical Bar plc, assume the role of Senior Vice President. Gary Wingrove, Head of Construction Management at BT, will become Junior Vice President, with James Wates, Deputy Chairman of the Wates Group, appointed as the second Junior Vice President.
