Colmore Building: Interface The Greenhouse, Birmingham

Last year, the global flooring company invested £1m into building its new UK headquarters in Birmingham’s main business district. Situated on the 10th floor of The Colmore Building, the flexible office space has sustainability and wellbeing at its heart, with a mix of natural finishes and biophilic design. Committed to reversing climate change, Interface encourages employees to walk, cycle or use public transport, with no car parking facilities provided on site. BCO judges were impressed by the variety within the workspace including its welcoming entrance hub, providing a central collaborative meeting space designed to inspire employees and customers alike.

20LON_EcclestonYardsProject

5-6 Eccleston Yards, London

This development has completely reviewed the way their business works and the role of the workspace in supporting this. The central circulation spine not only spreads natural air across the office but creates an open environment which occupiers feel at ease working within. Judges noted how the extended window space has allowed workers to better engage with nature throughout the day, enabling them to be their best every day.

The judges were impressed by the movement the space encourages, supporting work away from a traditional desktop by offering a variety of alternative spaces. In particular, the judges highlighted the social space underneath the building’s atrium that brings natural light into the heart of the building and provides ample opportunity for breaks and informal catch-ups. The judges also noted how the building’s flexibility supported its social purpose, with over half of the office being able to be easily rearranged to accommodate evening events.
