BOURNVILLE PLACE, BOURNVILLE, BIRMINGHAM
Regional BCO Award Winner of the Corporate Workplace 2009

Cadbury faced a dilemma with this under-utilised block with their Bournville Conservation Area complex. They also had little experience of dealing with redevelopment of non-manufacturing space. This makes it all the more impressive that the regional judges declared Bournville Place one of the best projects they had seen in recent years, clearly demonstrating how to convert outmoded space into something new, vibrant and culture challenging.

This project demonstrates how an occupier can use an existing building to best effect. A marvellous example of an occupier thinking hard about its options and understanding the capabilities of existing structures. To replace two “contemporary” buildings by converting a much older canteen building – and to carry it out in a way that heralds everything that is great about the Cadbury brand.

The way in which this project has been a catalyst for change within the company is clearly evident from the outcome – opening the office community to a more more sociable, flexible and collaborative space.

The BCO invite you to take a look around this award winning project and find out from the Judges what makes it worthy of winning a BCO Regional Award.
