BCO welcomes release of Version 1 of the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard

Tag ( News )

As Version 1 of the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard is released, the BCO is pleased to see several recommendations from its expert committees incorporated into the Standard.

These include:

  • Introduction of “PC On Track” validation
  • “Deemed to satisfy” arrangements with NABERS and Passivhaus
  • Landlord-only and tenant-only verification for office buildings
  • Mixed-use rules allowing limits to be apportioned pro-rata across different uses
  • Clarification on the rules and derogations for PVs
  • Introduction of performance evaluations, allowing buildings that don’t meet all criteria (e.g., refrigerants), alongside fully compliant net zero carbon–aligned buildings, to still be recognised for the areas they achieve
