BCO NextGen London & SE: Straus Haus Talk & Tour

Join the BCO NextGen London & SE committee for a Talk & Tour of Straus Haus. 50 – 55 Great Sutton Street is the extension and refurbishment of a 1960s office building in the heart of Clerkenwell’s Hat and Feathers Conservation Area.

Three questions were fundamental to the design. Firstly, what of the previous iterations of the building could be kept, integrated or celebrated? Secondly, how could new elements increase the building’s longevity and reduce the frequency of future refurbishment cycles? And thirdly, what were the elements that can sustain an emotional connection with the building into the future – for both the public who engage with the building in the streetscape and for the occupiers working in the building. Essentially, will it last and will people feel strongly enough to keep it?

A development by Nuveen Real Estate, designed by Piercy&Company and engineered by AECOM, the project upgraded the building, increased external spaces and added a rooftop extension to create 73,325 sqft of revitalised office space while delivering embodied and operational carbon benefits.
