On this Talk & Tour, you’ll hear from Heyne Tillett Steel structural engineers and architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris on how they achieved the sensitive refurbishment and extension of Denys Lasdun’s iconic Grade II listed design, which was originally constructed as IBM’s London office in 1981.

The addition of one storey and extension over existing terraces has increased its floor area by 40%, while preserving 80% of the concrete volume, safeguarding the building’s distinctive aesthetic while also reducing carbon.

This is a project that champions a retrofit-first, sustainable approach – preserving the original design while envisioning modern, flexible office spaces for the present day.
