BCO NextGen London & SE: Talk and Tour Milieu

Join the BCO NextGen London & SE Committee, HGG London for an exclusive talk and tour of Milieu. Milieu, developed by HGG London, is a landmark seven-storey workplace located just off Old Street’s ‘Silicon Roundabout’. One of London’s tallest hybrid cross-laminated timber (CLT) and steel buildings, it showcases an exemplary structure-first design approach by Mary Duggan Architects, Ackroyd Lowrie and Webb Yates. The hybrid superstructure delivers a refined aesthetic while achieving an embodied carbon footprint of 496kgCO₂e/m², significantly outperforming RIBA’s 2030 target for new-build offices. High-performance MVHR systems and a triple-glazed façade further minimise operational energy use.

For BCO members, the tour offers valuable insight into progressive office design: innovative hybrid construction, the engineering solution of T-shaped tapered steel columns that enable the building’s dramatic cantilever, and flexible, wellness-focused workspace layouts with abundant natural light and outdoor connections. Members will also see how the ground floor integrates cultural programming through the Forefront gallery headquarters, reflecting how contemporary workplaces can support broader community and creative engagement.
