BCO NextGen London & SE: Talk and Tour The Harrison
Join the BCO NextGen London & SE Committee, Anomaly, Aviva Investors and Red Construction for an exclusive talk and tour of The Harrison, a Shoreditch refurbishment that brings together heritage, sustainability, and warehouse-style office design. With refurbishment, retrofit, and whole-life performance now central to the future of commercial real estate, this project offers an immersive look at how complex, urban buildings can be reimagined for modern purposes while celebrating their history and local character.
Originally part of the historic Harrison warehouse complex, the building retains its industrial spirit while transforming into a five-storey, 40,000 sq. ft NIA Cat A office. Expressive roof-level interventions – including lightweight steel-framed orangeries, rooftop PV arrays, and modern plant – demonstrate how unconventional design can be integrated with high-quality finishes to create a distinctive workplace with local charm.
The tour offers a firsthand look at the project’s key architectural and technical features, from upgraded entrances and bespoke doors to the sensitive restoration of historic windows. Internally, reconfigured layouts, new MEP services, improved vertical circulation, and modern cycle facilities demonstrate how a retained structure can successfully meet the needs of today’s occupiers.
The presentations will explore the wider story behind The Harrison, highlighting how sustainability and social value ambitions informed decision-making throughout the design and construction process. From circular economy initiatives and energy performance strategies to achieving EPC A and targeting BREEAM Excellent, the discussion will demonstrate how refurbishment-led development can deliver tangible environmental and community benefits.
This Tour & Talk offers BCO NextGen members a rare opportunity to see, hear, and question how a commercial office can successfully combine heritage, industrial character, and modern sustainability to help shape today’s-built environment.
